Getting Started in Compliance

Historically compliance has been the domain of lawyers, but an analysis of the Institute's membership has revealed that throughout the membership there was a wide range of backgrounds, too numerous to list. About 25% of Members have a law degree, a similar number have accounting and economics qualifications.

There is no single pathway for becoming a compliance professional.

As yet there are no Undergraduate degrees and only a few Masters courses. ACI is working with several universities to develop qualifications that align with our Professional Accreditation requirements.

Because the practice of compliance requires such a broad range of skills, and requires an understanding of the commercial and operational environment, it is suggested that entry into compliance occur after you have acquired some employment experience.

ACI has a structured Accreditation program that provides the core compliance training for both those entering the profession and for the more advanced professional. We also have a range of courses and materials available for those interested in compliance as a profession, or those who have compliance responsibilities as part of their role responsibilities.
